Blog:
Hey fellow agents, big news out of California! State Farm, the state's biggest homeowners insurance provider, is making major changes that could seriously impact your clients.
- The Lowdown: State Farm is dropping policies in high-risk wildfire areas across California. Orinda (ZIP code 94563) is hit hardest, but other Bay Area locations are also affected.
- Why it Matters: Clients in these areas have fewer options now. The state-run (and pricey!) FAIR plan may be their only fallback for basic fire coverage, which can leave them seriously underinsured.
- What You Can Do:
- Proactively check your book of business. Are any of your clients in affected ZIP codes?
- Reach out ASAP! Help clients understand their options and make sure they don't get caught without coverage.
- Explore alternative carriers. Speciality insurers may be willing to take on the risk that State Farm won't.
